i did a search on the Forum and didn't see a post on this resource: Plaxo describes itself as follows:

Plaxo, Inc. keeps people connected by solving the common and frustrating problem of out-of-date contact information. Founded in July 2001, Plaxo provides a free service that securely updates and maintains the information in your address book. Plaxo is the universal digital assistant; available to you wherever and whenever you need it to keep you organized, on top of your life and in touch with those you care about.

Since its release in beta in November 2002, Plaxo has become widely popular, adding an average of 20,000 new users every day due to the service’s ease-of-use and simplicity.

They boast in having over 15mil users worldwide.

I personally like this service because it helps me keep uptodate contact information of Friends and business contacts (that's if they take the time to update their information).

to the most extent the information is uptodate.

I like using it to send people Holiday Cards, Birthday Cards, and thank you gifts in the mail.

The Trouble is...

Postby mphcoach » Mon Feb 25, 2008 4:32 pm

Andy, that there are just so many of these things around right now.

I'm getting overwhelmed with the LinkedIn; Ecademy; MyFace; SpaceBook things that keep coming at me, I just switch them all off!

There has been a rumour in the UK papers this weekend that MySpace has seen a decline - maybe these things have a limited life, like any fashion and the next one will be around anytime soon.

Ah, if only I could come up with the next big thing'.

Hi Martin,

You said: 'If only......

Can we find out, how all these mentionned below have started? Are they a result of brainstorming sessions? What can we do? I guess it happened with the right people of various expertise. Or are some just 'One man's idea?

It's the $64K Question!

Postby mphcoach » Mon Feb 25, 2008 4:55 pm

Nice one Beat.

Maybe we could come up with our 'Yahoogle' or 'FaceSpace', right on here.

It comes also to that point raised on another thread about the ability to 'Tipping Point' it.

If we want an online brainstorming session - I'm in for a share!

PS, I have just received (still in it's Amazon wrapper - there's another great idea I missed!), "Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything" by Don Tapscott & Anthony Williams, recommended by a colleague, so this is a very apposite line of debate.

How Facebook started

Hi Beat,

If you're interested in the story of Facebook, you should check out Lisa Johnson's "Mind Your X's and Y's" since one of the things it talks about is how Facebook surpassed MySpace which had originally trumped Friendster. Moreover, Johnson says "Developed in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, Chris Hughes, and Dustin Moskovitz at Harvard University, Facebook is a social-networking site modeled after traditional school facebooks, which collect names, photos, personal interests, and other information about students into a bound paper booklet. The three creators originally designed the site just for Harvard students, but the phenomenon quickly spread to other schools...because it appeals to the average student's life and daily rhythms" ("Mind Your X's and Y's" 70).

Here's my book review on "Mind Your X's and Y's":

Online Brainstorming

Postby TheRainmaker » Tue Feb 26, 2008 1:56 pm

If any of you have read Jack Canfield's Success Principles or Robert Allen & Mark Victor Hansen, Enlightened Millionaires, you will understand how these great concepts come about.

Go back to the original text on Masterminding which is Napolean Hill in Think & Grow Rich. While their are many Mastermind groups out there right now, they arent really true to the original philosophy. In its purest form a mastermind group, or inner circle is a group dedicated to one goal, one cause and they all utilize their personal connections and resources to accomplish it.

I think if you really wanted to creat a 'next best thing' you need to find people to join your inner circle. STaff, friends, suppliers, mentors anyone that can dedicate some time to working on it, launching it and reaping the benefits.

I think doing one online would be great..who else would be interested?

What Structure Would Work?

Postby mphcoach » Tue Feb 26, 2008 3:29 pm

I'm thinking we need a brainstorming session on how to run this

The wiki format looks a good way to develop a three dimensional input process, but how would that be managed to make the input valued appropriately, yet manageable.

I haven't had time to read the book yet!

Hi Jude,

In "Mind Your X's and Y's", Lisa Johnson believes that every organization needs staff or strategic partners with the following 5 talents/skills in order to become the next big thing (pg. 239):

1. Content strategists
2. Community connectors
3. Change agents
4. Visionary leaders
5. Architects

If you'd like to brainstorm online, I'm here to help :)

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your posts. This makes me think. Much appreciated. I think we need to think of a total new name. What about the necessary infrastructure? It is a challenge. You guys know far more than I do. I am just thinking, when Mr Ford appointed people with the necessary skill to achieve his dreams of the motor car. I have to absorbe it in my mind.

Today I have not much time, as I have several committments. I'll be back.
