Re: Confusing Taxes or What?

Almost completely in the UK, all taxes are included in any advertising. In the States, I just don't know if that is the case. Is there a simple rule and how does it work in Canada?

I've traveled around quite a bit and each state has their own tax rate and then if you eat out, many have a separate foods tax and counties or cities can have their own tax. It is a colossal pain to keep up with and especially when traveling. But, as long as each state and locality has the ability to charge different amounts, it will stay this confusing.

The income tax structure is far worse -----

Give a state one tax...

and they'll keep it!

I'm reminded of the various cities that have sports stadiums. Far be it for the multimillionaire owners of sports teams to pay to build their own stadiums. No - the people who live in that community must be taxed in order to pay for its building.

Once it's built of course, and that tax is no longer needed for the building...it stays...because then the people are used to paying it and the local governments have so many other worthwhile needs for that money.... (like lining their own pockets and pension plans...)

taxes in canada

Postby jvprosperity » Mon Feb 18, 2008 11:48 pm

Well in Canada we only have a few provinces and the Sales tax is slightly different. Here in Ontario the Goods & Services tax has reduced to 5% from 7% in the last year due to the promises made by the government in place.

The stadiums I've kept track of, the owners or teams paid for. But that could depend on what sort of team it is. It seems that I heard about some cities that offered to build a stadium to attract a team, but that is a decision the individual cities would have to make and if the team is any good, it should be a sound business decision - of course no one knows how the team will actually do :)
