Help me analyze my elevator pitch

Postby Evan » Mon Jul 16, 2007 12:37 pm

The elevator pitch is the classic 30 second intro that you use to present your idea to a potential investor.

I would love to hear what some of your elevator pitches are and then get our forum members to comment on them!

The Pitch

Postby litekepr » Mon Jul 16, 2007 2:11 pm

I struggled and struggled with an elevator pitch for my books and finally settled on a simple tagline instead. Now that I've boiled it down to less than 10 words, I figure the elevator pitch should be easier :)

THe tagline I'm currently using is

"Coastal Suspense with a Touch of Romance"

This fits because each book have elements of suspense and there is a strong heroine who falls in love. The romance is an element of the story, but not the main focus on the story. I've been getting good feedback so far :)

Elevator pitch is much like headlines when it comes to coming up with one, deleting them, practicing them again and finally applying.

I like testing it on a website and use an elevator pitch as a headline or sub-headline, and measuring the effectiveness by tracking response.

What I do is create a squeeze page based on different elevator pitches and split test them to see which one generates greater response.

I wrote an article on creating an effective elevator pitch a while ago. May be it will add some ideas.

One thing I tell myself whenever needing to create a new elevator pitch is I try NOT to dwell on my qualification, credentials, experience so much -- that part is done as my prospect once opts in to check out the freebie resources.

But I try creating something interesting so that it will elicit them to want to know seek more than the initial contact.

Warmest Regards,

A Great Elevator Pitch

Postby mphcoach » Sun Sep 09, 2007 11:37 am

...I once heard from Jim Vuocolo, a coach, was...

"I do what I want every day and help others do the same"

Short, intriguing and with a good strong hint of benefit to the potential customer. Definitely leading them to ask more...

Pretty cool I think too.

Nice example and it definitely gives the person an idea of the benefits he offers :)
