Postby jennaentrust » Fri Sep 23, 2011 11:33 am

Hello I am also working on a book does anyone know anything about the publishing industry? A friend was telling me that often authors once a publisher is interested in working with them they can receive a book advance, is this true?

Generally publishers do not give book advances to first time authors.
Besides being a first time author you have to get a publisher to read your proposal. The large publishers, the ones who do give advances, won't talk to you unless you have an agent.

Your first step is to write a killer proposal and hunt down a good agent.
