Tips To Help You Create A Marketing Plan That Works

Postby bjsteele » Wed Mar 28, 2012 4:54 am

A marketing plan is a written plan with details how you intend to make your target market aware of your product or service.

Here are some tips to help you create an effective marketing plan.

1. Before you decide where you business needs to go you need to take stock of where it currently is. Where does your business currently stand? Take some time to assess what areas of your business need to be focused on in order for it to grow. Is your business still in the start-up phase? Do others know about your business? What are the positive or negative comments you received during the test phase of your marketing?

2. Now decide where you want your business to go from here. Take some time to set realistic, achievable goals and then write down the steps you need to take in order to reach those goals. Break large, long-term goals into smaller short-term mini-goals. In this way, you can keep track of the progress you are making.

3. Look for a smaller niche within your larger target market. Find customers whose needs are not being met and then fill those needs. That’s the fastest way to build a successful business.

4. Decide on your marketing message and on the medium you want to use to get that message out to your target audience. List the media outlets you want to try and make a note of the ones you want and can afford to do first.

5. Use a combination of free and paid promotions. It’s important to reinvest a portion if your profits back into your business so that it can continue to grow.

Start now. It takes time and effort to keep your business going and growing. Take small steps each day and your business will be thriving.

Thanks for the great tips.... though I think tip number3 is true, I am not sure if equates to the fastest way to build a successful business per se. IMHO most people are stuck with the idealism that their "ideas" are the one that gets the job done where in the truth is, it isn't. Many people were crazy over friendster before facebook became a big hit. They had the same idea, it was not a small niche and infact there are may other social netwoking sites. But even though the idea is already exising and the demand for it is not yet solid, it still worked... primarily because of their execution. But then again it is always good to be prepared and have a plan like this. :)

Marketing plan is really necessary to help achieve the success. Proper plan consists of compiled suggestions of both the planning department and the sales department. Knowledge of current marketing trends is an important factor in devising proper strategies for marketing. Hence, market surveys, feedback etc are used as vital components of a successful marketing plan.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for sharing these wonderful tips with us! Marketing if done in the right manner can be of great help for running the business effectively. However, according to me social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter can be used as a great tool for marketing a particular business.

Make sure you track your results and tweak (or dump) what's not working for you. This will let you know if your marketing plan is working as planned or if you need to make some changes. Good post. :)

Nice post, thanks, plans and budgets are made for a special objective; partners, financing, suppliers, personal development, ...

However, once completed and approved, most sit on the shelf and collect dust. They should be a part of your business operations and management, implemented and periodically reviewed and updated

I agree, Don. Large and small businesses alike can benefit from following a focused plan that keeps them on track to achieve their desired and anticipated milestones.

Thank you for tips.. well explained.

I have my friend example. We used to have same products when we both started production but because of lack of marketing i failed to gain customers while he hit the goal of first quarter. Well that was part of game but marketing can make a big change if you have great product. :)
