Newbie from Africa

Postby Biiyke » Fri Apr 29, 2011 6:49 am

Hi Everyone! Just launched a new multi admin site "Naijayard" It's an Online Shopping Catalogue and is set to be a connection between buyers/sellers from Africa and buyers/sellers from other parts of the world!
Its's quite new but I have my entrepreneurial muscles up. It cost a lot to build since its bespoke and multi-admin, but its worth it. We are on the promotion phase now, which has a whole different set of challenges, but I'll keep you posted. You can go look at the site and support the best way you can.
It doesn't cost a thing to get a "Yard" (Store), so if you know any seller that wants to reach the African Market, this is one stressless medium. Suggestions are Welcome!

Welcome to the forums Biiyke!

You asked if we know any sellers who were trying to reach the African market... I think you'd honestly have more luck going the other way - try to find sellers in Africa and sell to the rest of the world.

I agree with Evan. If you have a channel into African-made goods, you have a cultural niche that is appealing to the North American market. Find a way to capitalize on that.

Hello Evan,
You are absolutely correct.Thank you for your advice. That's actually the whole idea,Africa to the world and the world to Africa. So I will throw more weight on that area.

Hello GT Bulmer,Thanks for your comment.
I have always had a strong entrepreneurial drive but this is the first time I am getting this far and I see myself doing lots of big things online. I know I have found my niche.
I agree with you on showcasing African products to the rest of the world, that is exactly what naijayard is set out to do.
My major challenge right now is getting the people on board in spite of the fact that the site is free. However,we are working on an offline promotional strategy which still involves a lot of finances, but I know it's a walk over.
Please, what is the best way to promote a site like this online?

Traditional online marketing methods include promoting your website via blogging, forums like this one, other social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter and many others), writing articles and submitting them to article directories, news releases... Those are the main ones that come to mind. There are also a variety of ways to use advertising online.
