Review My: Trump 4 President Site

Postby Zacman » Tue Apr 19, 2011 5:38 pm

Hey everyone,

I'd like your opinions on my new site:

http://www.trump-4-president.com

Just put it together over the weekend and have tons of work to do yet, but thought some feedback at this point would be helpful.

I've gone with patriotic colors, but have an RSS feed box and Newsletter signup box that I'm having trouble deciding what colors to go with.

I'm going to add a ton more categories etc. so my menu will grow substantially pushing the RSS box down the page, but I'm just not sure I like the yellow box even though it does stick out.

My header design is temporary until I really get a feel for what I want a pro designer to do. Hate giving out a project with nothing but a blank canvas for someone to work with.

I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions you may have, whether you're for or against Trump is not particularly the issue.

I will btw, have categories for opposing views.

Thanks
Good Day!
Zac

Hey Zac - congrats on getting it up quickly!

My first thoughts are: loud and cluttered.

Red is a very powerful color and to have it as a background can be really hard on the eyes (especially a widescreen monitor where the background is so big).

There's also a lot going on - what do you want people to do? Get on the newsletter list? I'm unsure what I'm supposed to do next...

I love the picture though with Trump on Uncle Sam with the You're Fired Mr. President - I think the content will shine through more as you get the graphic interface looking a little nicer. You might want to consider putting it up on 99designs for some bids.

How do you plan to monetize the site? That could help us help you better as well!

Thanks Evan,

I think I'm going to tile the background with a faded image to tone it down a bit. Maybe a shadowed flag image...?

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate the first impression type of view point.

Monetization will be extremely easy and multiple avenues are definitely in the works, apparel, bumper stickers, etc etc. not to mention adsense and economical stimulus affiliate programs.

Like I said, I've tons of work to do and numerous related topics to add to the site, but getting started off in the right direction is also key, so I really appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks for the graphics tip too.
Good Day!

Thanks again Evan.

BTW I linked our facebook fanpage to this review. Put your picture to the forums up as well.

I didn't address your question properly regrading my MWR, (most wanted response) which is to engage my visitors/readers and prompt them to post comments etc.

I want visitors to like us at Facebook, follow at Twitter, and numerous social networks to help the site go viral.

Above and beyond that I also want to engage the media to one degree or another who may want to post PRs or links to their commentary.

Whether Mr. Trump actually becomes a serious contender this election cycle or not the buzz will still be out there as well as all the lateral issues the site will focus on.
Good Day!

Hi Zac - got it. If you want people to like it in facebook and help everything go viral I would recommend using as many of the Social Plugin tools from Facebook as possible: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/

Right now the social media integration doesn't play a big role on the site and you could definitely get a big boost from more exposure!

I use almost all of the plugins myself (see http://www.evancarmichael.com/Famous-En ... hnson.html as a typical page)

Good luck!

Thanks Evan,

I'm working on that right now. Toned down the red for now and also changed my text box colors.

I'll have to check on my son's real wide screen to see if it helped.

So much work to do with content now, videos etc.

The plugins will definitely play a large role, thanks!

Well I changed the red outside background color to a tiled image. It's much darker and has a shadowed flag image. I think I like it much better, but would be interested in other's thoughts.

I've been thinking about the most wanted response and how to get my visitors to interact, so I'm thinking of putting some kind of directions below the first couple of paragraphs.

It's easy to forget your visitors may not understand the site like you do. Although most visitors will enter through keyword focused pages directly relating to their searches, so that should help with interaction as well.

Oh, btw, I put a facebook like button on the newspaper enlarged pop up screen. Google's already got it #1 for Trump Wins Newspaper, which of course no one is searching for....yet

Hi Zac,

It's looking good. I wanted to check out the "opposing views," but I found it difficult to locate the "opposing views" link. When I found the forum link on this page,

http://www.trump-4-president.com/election-forum.html

it went to

http://www.internet-work-marketing.com/ ... m.html#INV

which tells us:

"No Such URL at This Domain

Sorry,

There's no such page at www.internet-work-marketing.com

Click here to link to internet-work-marketing.com's Home Page. Then just click on the right button to go wherever you'd like within the site.

Sorry for the bother "

:(

Good luck!

Thank David!

I appreciate the heads up on the broken link. I fixed both of them.

I can see I'm going to have to make things as clear as possible for visitors to get them to interact easily.

I don't have a specific opposing views page/categories yet, but comments feature works both ways if you know what I mean.

I'll likely do some commentary on CNNs or Karl Rove's bashing of Trump which should give opposing views plenty of food for thought and comment.

Thanks again David, I may have not seen those links until my host pointed them out to me.
Good Day!

I think the site is great. You've done an amazing job already in the short time since you started it.

The thing I would probably change right now is the SBI banners in the sidebar. They clutter it up a little too much and they have nothing to do with anything the site is about. I don't see any visitors caring about building a website.

Another thing that has me baffled, and maybe I am just reading it wrong, but there is a line in the middle close to the top that says this...

"Will He Run Win Lead?"

That makes no sense to me. Is there supposed to be some punctuation in there or did you write it wrong and just haven't noticed to correct it? I don't know.

Trent,

Thanks a lot. I appreciate the comment about run win lead.

I changed it to Will he Run-Win & Lead.

It's kind of a tag line meaning of course, will he run first off. Will he win second. And then
will he lead us out of the mess the countries in right now.

It's also the name of my newsletter. But above that, it kind of gives an overview of what the site includes.

I thought of using it since it has longer legs than just will he run etc. as even if he does and wins, that phrase will be relevant still.

I know, I can't help myself with the SBI banners, LOL But 70+% of the public is interested in earning
some income from home and I hope to have a bunch coming there who have their personal economy in mind and looking for answers etc.
Good Day!

OK, I'm not going to post updates when I make every little change to the site since there will be tons.

But I did make a significant look and feel change with a new Header image, as well as darken down all heading backgrounds as well as add a shaded body background.

The New Header is the most significant.

Any feedback on the new look?

Thanks,
Zac

Edit: Oh, I guess it would be easier to put another link here:
