Web Business Podcast is LIVE! :)

Postby David Hurley » Wed Mar 09, 2011 3:24 am

Hi everybody,

My free podcast is now up and running on iTunes and on Podbean as well as on my website.

I'd love it if you could...

1. Review the podcast and make suggestions. (If you checked out my previous Soundcloud recording about blogging, you will recognize the first part of the podcast... )

2. Let me know how you like the website at: http://webbusinesspodcast.com

Thanks!

Great job! Listened to most of episode #1 and it was very good.

One thing I would do is delete the adsense you have just below the title of the posts. I assume the point is to get people to listen to your podcast and build an audience, so you don't want them to click away before they do.

Hi Trent,

Thanks for checking out the podcast and the site.

I use an Adsense plug-in which automates the placement of the ads. You are right that I should be prioritizing the podcast so I think I'll move the ad to the foot of each post... or do you think I should remove adsense altogether?

Bottom of each post would be good. That way they either already listened to the podcast or they have decided they aren't going to, and might click the ads.

Hi David - awesome new initiative - I'm looking forward to seeing it take off!

A couple of suggestions:

1) The top banner is very stock-ish. You're targeted online marketers who likely know about stock photography which makes it more difficult because they are a more savvy group. I love the picture of you on the side and would see if I could put that as your top banner. If you have a high res version of it let me know and I might even be able to help you out.

2) I don't have iTunes but I clicked on the big link - everything was in Japanese and I had no idea what to do next - not a bad idea if you're targeting the Japanese market but your blog content is in English so it's hard for me to take the next step.

3) Your audio intro says "webBusinessPodcast" a few too many times for my liking. I would just start it off with you talking - the British accent is always a winner in my view and you can engage people right away. I had a long intro with my videos and switched it to me being the first thing you see and people seem to like that better. You don't have a lot of time to win someone over so I think you'd have a better chance doing it with your excited voice.

Hope that helps - really happy to see this take off for you!

Thanks for the great feedback, guys.

@Trent: Yes, on this website, it makes sense to put adsense at the bottom.

@Zac: Thank you for checking out the website. Glad you like it. I'm improving, eh?!

@Evan: (1) Ah yes, you spotted the stock image! Thank you for the offer. I will get back to you in due course... (2) Thanks for pointing out that iTunes came up in Japanese. I forgot about that being likely to happen. (3) I agree the intro was far too long; I was indulging my excitement at producing my first bit of Garageband muzac without using jingles!

Next one should be out tomorrow... but I haven't finished recording it yet, let alone editing it.

Web Business Podcast 2: Mindset...

Postby David Hurley » Tue Mar 15, 2011 10:51 am

Hi Everybody,

Episode 2 of my Internet marketing podcast is now available on iTunes and on my website at:

http://webbusinesspodcast.com/podcasts/ ... g-mindset/

The theme of the podcast is "generating the Internet marketing mindset" with reference to Christopher Hoenig's book, 6 Essential Secrets for Thinking on a New Level.

Listen out for a slight variation on an incident in Pilgrim's Progress around the 13:10 mark!

Someone familiar to members of the APG is discussed as a good example of "internet marketing mindset"...

And we have another fine story from the pages of Think and Grow Rich, which enjoins us always to go "one step beyond"... 8)

Enjoy!

This might be a stupid question and something I could figure out very easily, but I am going to ask it anyway...

How do you get something on iTunes, such as you have done with your podcasts? Is there somewhere you can submit them or what?

Hi David - have you thought of making these into videos? Even if it doesn't have you live on screen?

Remembering the Success Secret Keywords would be a lot easier if we could see them.

@Trent: The easiest way is to subscribe to a service such as Podbean then upload your file to their site.

My podcast first appears on this site:

http://davidhurley.podbean.com/

It's easy to set up and once you've set it up, each time you upload a podcast to podbean it will automatically appear on iTunes.

@Evan: About the video, do you mean I could take the podcast recording and use something like Camtasia to make a video to illustrate the narrative? It could then go out on YouTube as well as iTunes...

Hi David - exactly. The best option would be to actually have you on camera I know that can be intimidating and it takes a long time to get really comfortable.

But even using Camtasia is a big boost - You can put your picture while you're doing the intro and then text / images for the rest of it. If you watch my videos I'm only on screen for a few seconds at a time - the rest is Camtasia.

I think it would add a lot of value to your audience and would make a greater impact on their lives because it'll be a lot easier to digest the information you give them. If you need any help with it, let me know!

Podbean! We can always count on David to discover interesting sites and resources for us to check out as we seek to develop our online businesses.

The closest I've come to broadcasting on the Internet is a family-friendly site called Zoodles where one of my daughters convinced me to register. Her two young children and I exchange video messages (recorded with our respective built-in web cams). It's as quick and easy as sending an email.

Now that I have seen it, in my opinion the video quality from my cam is not "good enough" for marketing purposes so I will definitely have to look at external recording devices and suitable software. This discussion thread (and others about video) will definitely help in the research process.
