Japanese Earthquake - Make Me Pay!

Postby David Hurley » Sun Mar 13, 2011 10:38 pm

This isn't really a brag or a rant, but I thought I should do something to help the relief effort in Japan.

As some of you may know, one of my contracts in Hiroshima is to work part time as a consultant for a small NPO called ANT-Hiroshima. One of my jobs is to write stuff for their blog at: http://ant-hiroshima.blogspot.com ).

I met the boss on Saturday evening and she told me she wanted ANT to be involved in the relief operation when NPO's are able to operate in the area, so I would like to help her raise money for that and am running a mini campaign on my website at:

http://grasp-the-nettle.com

It is very simple. I have added the ANT-Hiroshima Paypal donation button (NOT my own Paypal donate button! :lol: ) to my site and invite visitors to donate $10.

I WILL ADD $1 TO EVERY $10 DONATION RECEIVED VIA THE BUTTON ON MY SITE - for the first 100 donations!

Yes, I added some code to the button so ANT will know how many $10 donations came through my website and will know how much I have to pay!

So, here's your chance to MAKE ME PAY! ==> http://grasp-the-nettle.com

Seriously, though, this is the worst disaster Japan has faced since WWII: It is HUGE.

Anyway, thank you for reading this thread.

David - this is an AMAZING initiative - thank you for setting it up.

I hope you're ok and the devastation hasn't impacted you too much.

I'd like to make a donation to support this cause but it automatically makes it as $10 and I'd like to do $50. Is it possible to make this change? I didn't see an option to choose another amount.

Looks like you're going to have to pay at least another $5 :)

Thanks David - let me know.

Hi, David:

I'm gonna make you pay for this! :lol:

I clicked through to your website, clicked the donate button several times (since it is set up to receive $10.00 increments) and made five donations to the cause. It's not much in the overall scheme of things, but if everybody gives a little, it all adds up.

I still can't believe the photos and videos I've watched of the tsunami sweeping across sections of Japan. To see a swath of debris that must be kilometers wide push so far inland is beyond comprehension. Buildings, vehicles and everything else, knocked down in seconds and swept kilometers away in just minutes is unbelievable.

I was so relieved to hear that you were safe. My thoughts and prayers go out to the many in your adopted country that have lost so much, so quickly.

Best of success with your ANT-Hiroshima emergency relief efforts!

Hey guys, thank you very much!

The donation button is fixed at $10 and ANT's Paypal account doesn't have a "Donation" link where it is supposed to be in the admin so I had to hunt for the code and this fixed payment version was the only one I could find.

I will add your links in a widget just below the appeal widget.

I really appreciate the support.

@Evan,

I have now added three buttons for different donation amounts: $10, $50 and $100.

@GT

Your link is now on my website. Also, I will ask Tomoko Watanabe of ANT-Hiroshima to email an acknowledgement when I see her on Wednesday.

Several thousand people have been rescued as of today. But also, two thousand bodies have been washed ashore, there has been a second explosion at the Fukushima nuclear plant a third reactor is also giving cause for concern. However, "the container vessels in all three reactors are holding".

Things in Hiroshima are "normal" and I was able to ship several packages to overseas destinations as per usual at the post office today.

Thank you for the link on your website, David! That is an added bonus. It's awesome to see a number of your marketing associates contributing already.

I appreciate also the update you have provided here on situations in Japan. We hear some things in the news, but I sometimes mistrust the online news sources. It's good to have some confirmation from a trustworthy source.

Hi David

I received a very nice email from Tomoko which was not necessary but really nice at the same time. I am happy that I was able to make a contribution and you adding a Paypal button to your site made it just so simple to do.

I've been a bit slow to follow up on this, but I finally paid my donation to ANT-Hiroshima today.

What jogged me into action was a video I posted on the "Help Japan" page of my website. Please check it out here, especially if you need a bit of an uplift today...

Thanks!
