Meet the NEW Twitter.com

Postby GT Bulmer » Thu Sep 16, 2010 2:37 pm

Hello, everyone:

Have you heard the news about Twitter? They are preparing to roll out some new features and an amazing new user interface. I just received this link moments ago, so I haven't even had time to review it all and digest everything, but here is the link:

Meet the new Twitter.com

You will see a very interesting - and subtle - promotional video, plus the page introduces the new look and features and highlights how and why they will provide a better experience for Twitter users.

Of particular note is a new "double pane" window where an additional page of info slides out, allowing you to do much more while still in the same screen. Looks pretty amazing! Check it out and tell us what you think about it.

Hi GT,

Thanks for the update, the video looks quite exciting. I have been expecting this for a while and I think as social networking develops we can expect to see sites with a lot more content and functionality to keep pace with what is still quite a young part of Internet Marketing.

The shear size of Facebook, Twitter and Squidoo et al with the membership base that they have on the Internet makes them a natural fit for market expansion and I can see a lot more business being done on these sites in the years ahead,

thanks for sharing,

Mal.

Hi, Mal:

Yes, content and functionality seem to be the driving forces behind these types of expansion.

However, I did read in Website Magazine recently that web users generally seem to favour website speed over functionality. Add too much functionality, and it slows the system down.

Tech designers know that you've gotta keep the users happy, so it presents them with a stimulating challenge, to find ways to build faster systems. Challenge drives innovation.

The new face of Twitter is going to be very interesting, indeed. It's getting hard to keep up to all the tech changes across the Internet as the Information Age accelerates!

Hi Gt,
Thanks for this link. I will take time to look over it. The good thing about all these great companies is that they keep on giving us good products, improving and making sure we are satisfied with thier products. This is the golden rule. I believe we all learn from them.

Hello, Yinka:

Yes, to keep us interested, these companies and services have to keep improving or expanding their services. We humans are funny: we resist change and complain when forced to change, but at the same time, if things stay the same too long we get bored, tired of it and lose our interest.

Twitter has seemed to always be working behind the scenes to improve the social networking experience for users.

Hey GT,

I wasn't aware of this at all. Looks like a good change is coming. The new interface looks much better than the current one, and I like the new features that will be included. Speed is definitely an issue for many sites, and Twitter especially. The current site is somewhat slow at times or doesn't load for me at all which requires having to hit the "refresh" button (sometimes multiple times). Sometimes ReTweeting doesn't work, etc. There's issues that will have to be addressed, and hopefully with the new site rolling out they can find a way to speed things up and make it efficient.

Hello:

Yes, I agree: I especially like that benefit of having a double-pane window, allowing a person to see everything without leaving the page.

I'm still getting used to the new, improved features, but so far, I like it!
