I can't even imagine going away to a place where I cannot get an internet connection, even if it is just a couple of days. although now it is possible to pick up your emails on your Blackberry if you have one.

I agree!

Networking is definitely the key word here.

What does everyone feel about the different Networking platforms out there?

I am on Twitter and Linkedin, have not joined Facebook yet as my time is fairly limited and one needs a lot of time to devote to all these various networking platforms. Unless you do this full time (the networking I mean).

Hi, Michelle:

I'm with you on that. I'm on Twitter and several forums and that's just about it, due to time constraints. There probably are applications that let you easily connect to and manage several networking sites from one dashboard, but then you need to spend time learning how to use that application and how to troubleshoot the issues.

I've been on a few membership sites that let you tweet your posts to Twitter, for example, but then I've found that when it gets posted on Twitter it looks peculiar and out of place because it is out of context.

For example, my autoresponder service that sends messages to my subscribers: I can punch a button to tweet those messages, but then my Twitter followers get something that either does not pertain to them, or simply makes no sense to them.

Hi GT

I think I actually prefer forums to other social networks although I do use Twitter, but as you say all of this takes up time I feel I could put to better use with article marketing etc. Somehow forums are more personal and I like that.

Hi, Michelle:

Like you, I have a preference for forums because the focus is getting and giving opinions and we can each do that on our own schedule.

Social sites are great for further developing the relationship (whether business or personal), but I equate those sites to social groups, clubs, organizations in one's own physical community: once you are there, a little more participation is required of you. You can't just pop in and out so easily.

Having said that ... I have been taking a closer look at social sites lately and considering ways to integrate them into my plans.

When you get it figured out I would love to hear how you plan to do it.

Hey Barry,

I've seen it advertised but haven't watched it. What's it about?

It's the "prequel " to the Battlestar Galactica TV show. It's how Robots became "Human" and took over the world. Great Show

Ahh... sounds cool. And not that far fetched when you think about how much technology has changed and how we rely on robots to do so many different functions these days.

This reminds me of the movie Eagle Eye and how the security software just took over and started killing off people because it got too "smart."

Hey, all:

I read recently that independent "artificial intelligence" in robots and computers is a long ways off because those systems lack reasoning abilities - they only do what they are programmed to do. They are not able to get smarter on their own.

Computing storage and power will continue to increase, but that just means the machines can process their input faster and react quicker. It doesn't mean they can evolve into something they are not already programmed to do.

On the other hand, if a programmer writes the proper program, the machine might be able to follow a path of "reasoning" that will lead it to attacking humans. But it would only do that as a result of programming, not as a result of truly autonomous reasoning.

Just my opinion.
