Social Media & Digg, Google, MySpace, and YouTube

Postby kelway » Sat Nov 29, 2008 2:17 pm

Conversation about Google and their search engine dominance, creating websites to their standards, ranking high, SEO, AdSense, keyword optimization, Google WebmasterTools, Checkout, and anything related to helping develop social content-media-networks-etc.

Social bookmarking and network creation with Digg and Ning. Anything related to developing communities of people with similar interests.

Share websites that work well with these companies, ideas on the Webs future, and your Social Media related profiles with Digg, StumbleUpon, MySpace, Ning, YouTube etc.

I used to use Google all the time, but after my shoddy treatment at their hands (they cancelled my AdSense account without warning or explanation, and I can guarantee there was nothing on any of my pages that broke TOS!) I refuse to use them.

So I use www.goodsearch.com. (It's a Yahoo search engine).

I also visit Wikipedia on a daily basis, and YouTube usually also daily, but only to check clips on old TV shows or classic MTV videos!

I am a big fan of YouTube! I don't think a day goes by that I don't watch at least a couple of videos on it.
I have also had great marketing success with it!

I use Google virtually all the time! If you include looking at Youtube videos on other people's sites then I guess Youtube is my second choice, with Yahoo.co.jp (for Japanese auctions) and Facebook in third and fourth places.

I use Google a lot for analysis and such. I recently started marketing through YouTube, and I like it a lot. Making videos is fun and enjoyable for me. I got a client who found me on YouTube and have been working together for a while now, so that's awesome. I just created a Facebook account a couple of days ago, so I'm just starting to market with it.

StumpleUpon is another great site that can help benefit your website and rankings. I haven't ever heard of Ning before. I'll have to check that one out.

All social sites are a great way to network and grow your business.

I'm constantly Googling for research and I agree with you about Stumbleupon Alan, it's a great resource. I also use Squidoo a lot.

I keep meaning to get around to using YouTube..it's on my "to do"list :)

Take care,

Ahh yes, Squidoo is amazing as well. I need to spend more time on there as I have procrastinated with my lenses. There is much to do on my "to do list." So much work, so little time.

Speaking of StumbleUpon, would anyone be interested in doing a Stumble exchange? It would be beneficial for both of us.

Like so many others, I use Google as my primary way of getting through to the worth. The other sites like You Tube and Social Media sites are secondary in my day.

Some of those sites are just too addictive,
I go on Youtube, Google and Facebook almost everytime I am using the computer.

Investigating and inquiring about these social media outlets is integral to any marketing campaign.

JBunion wrote:I spend considerable time navigating Facebook, YouTube, BlogTV.com, and Twitter. They have all proved to be very beneficial in setting up lead generation for my internet business. It is surprising how annonymous one can be with their postings and schematics as well, setting up multiple accounts and profiles to swoon traffic into a particular direction. I was shocked to see how ellaborate some MySpace users were. They were actually 'fake', as a marketing firm essentially managed all of them in an effort to create buzz around their client (music industry). It's shocking nowadays how far someone will go to market themselves.

That doesn't really surprise me any. People or companies will do almost anything to get noticed and have their name or brand made aware.

It's about the same as opening up a bunch of social bookmarking accounts for the same sites to bookmark all your posts with each account. Or, create a bunch of YouTube accounts and rate and comment on all your videos from separate accounts. There are marketers that actually teach this stuff.

My question is this. Does it actually pay off in the end?

Hey All!

Thought I'd chime in my two cents here... I only voted for facebook since my other top site - Twitter - was not there.
I have time each day set aside for my social networks and I primarily use Twitter, Facebook (not my personal page so much as the group for my business and other fan pages/groups as well) and Linked In.
I go to Digg, Stumbleupon and other sites like that when I am using my Socialmarker account to submit posts/blogs and more. I do have Stumbleupon downloaded in my browser and stumble pages during the day - quick and easy - it seems to really help rankings a lot.
I have some of these linked together along with my blog so that I do not have to post to all - but have it done automatically - saves much time.
Google, I use a lot with the alerts I have set up for my own use as well as client's.

Is it worth it? I don't spend a lot of time doing it (30 minutes a day), the automation helps out a bit and I will say that from using twitter I have signed one client and very close with another - one found me using a location alert and another I found using an alert I had set up for the words "virtual assistant"
I think they can be effective if you use them effectively...

Hi Kathy,

What I meant about it being worth it was in the sense that I described. Creating multiple accounts for various sites and posting and ranking your own stuff. It's very time consuming to say the least. I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there that has done this and thinks it's beneficial.
