Biz Plan Competition

Postby jvprosperity » Thu Apr 10, 2008 10:27 am

found on the Ontario Gov Site: http://www.sbe.gov.on.ca/ontcan/sbe/en/ ... omp_en.jsp

An opportunity for Ontario high school students to create a business plan and compete with their peers throughout the province for cash awards.

How we can help students:

MSBE, in partnership with the network of Small Business Enterprise Centres, has celebrated the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of Ontario's high school students with the Ontario Secondary School Business Plan Competition. The competition is open to all high school students in Ontario.

How Does It Work?

Students must first compete at a local business plan competition organized by a Small Business Enterprise Centre in their area.

The winner of each local competition becomes a Finalist in Northern Ontario, Eastern Ontario, Western Ontario or Central Ontario, depending on their location. The winner from each region will then compete for a placement at the Provincial level.

All finalists are honoured at an annual awards banquet where the Regional and Provincial winners are announced.

What Type of Plan Can be Entered?

Business ideas can range from the highly technical to the creative arts and everything in between. All we ask is for an original idea. In the past, many of the plans have not only shown creativity, but were truly implementable.

A Business Plan Guide is available for use by both students and teachers.

Plans are judged by independent judging panels consisting of among others, educators, business professionals, bankers and successful young entrepreneurs.

I’m interested, how do I find out more?

You can contact a Small Business Enterprise Centre near you to find out about a local competition in your area.

For more information, you can also contact Youth Partnerships, Entrepreneurship Branch by e-mail at bpc@ontario.ca

Business Plan Competition

This is another great opportunity and its great that people are encouraging young people to think about how organize and plan a business. There was very little if any of this when I was ready to start my business. That's really increased the difficulties over the years.

Biz Plan Competition

Postby bmueller47 » Sat Apr 19, 2008 5:02 pm

Hi there,

This is an incredible way to encourage young people. Never think they do amount to very little. They have engergy and enthusiasm to do something for the city and every one who comes in contact with it.

Is it possible that other cities would be prepared to do something similar? Is anybody from local government on these forum? Lets hear your voice about future projects.

Regards

Beat

We aren't a government agency and our contest isn't limited to young entrepreners, but we are running a "napkin" business plan competition that closes on June 18th, 2008.

There is a $1500 cash prize plus a printer and some good business productivity software - we'd love to see more submissions. There are details about our contest, which is open to Canadians (outside of Quebec), at http://www.canadaone.com/business_plan_ ... index.html.

There are no age restrictions; our contest is open to both young and old entrepreneurs.

It is nice to be holding a contest like this; in 1997/98 we won the "SIFE National Business Plan Competition for Young Entrepreneurs" for the CanadaOne concept ... but that is a long story in and of itself!

Hi Andy,

In this competition, do the students get to retain the rights to their "original" business plans or are they published for everyone to see and implemented by sponsors, etc?

We are not looking for a full business plan - but rather the core business ideas that you would jot down on a napkin. The summary of the top 20 finalist will probably be published on the site, but everything else will not be published.
