I would be inclined to say The Dark Knight expecially here in Australia, it has received alot of positive feedback and with the recent misshap, this has added extra publicity and critical reviews, i would say this would be the winner.

hey there ideas,

here are some more from the legend :) there are so many of these but the ones below are appropriate for business scenario i am figuring.

“If you love life, don't waste time, for time is what life is made up of.”

“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

“Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind.”

“All fixed set patterns are incapable of adaptability or pliability. The truth is outside of all fixed patterns.”
“If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.” Bruce Lee

I feel that movies like "The Dark Knight" that are genuinely good and make the most money should win all the accolades/awards. I mean, how can a movie that barely anyone has seen like last year's "No Country For Old Men" win the Oscar for "Best Picture"?? While I did take the time to watch "No Country For Old Men" and thought it was ok, it's not something I'd want to watch over again or recommend to a friend. In fact, "Fargo" was probably a better version of "No Country For Old Men".

For instance, would you award the Entrepreneur of the Year Award to someone (or a business) no one has heard of, but did everything perfectly... or would you give it to the person/business that made the most money/media impact?

My thoughts exactly! That Bruce Lee quote about continually reaching for higher "plateaus" inspired me through most of high school and University :D

And while I know it doesn't really look the part, Will Ferrell's summer comedy "Step Brothers" was actually a pretty funny movie (if you have a dirty sense of humor like me, haha  ) and promoted entrepreneurship :D !

Hey, Kevin:

Excellent point. I agree completely. How can a movie be considered a winner if so few people enjoy (or understand) it enough to recommend it to a friend? I suppose, with some of those awards, it's not popular opinion but a panel or organization of peers deciding. But still, shouldn't they give mass popularity it's due?

I ran a number of video stores over the years and stayed in touch with the awards etc. The Oscars have nothing to do with popularity - otherwise more comedies would win. Sometimes a movie can be popular and win major awards, but its definitely not a necessary prerequisite. The awards are about excellence on totally different levels. Like the times when an actor or actress can win in an off the wall movie. In those cases it is about how the person performs the part - interpretation, performance, and much more. I'm personally glad the Oscars aren't a popularity contest - the popular movies made money. Let the outstanding stories, performances, soundtracks etc win an award and be recognized for excellence. I don't always agree, but it is interesting to see what the people who understand movie making much more than any of us think about the movies. I saw awards for Let There Be Blood and I didn't like the movie at all, but Daniel Day Lewis did an outstanding job in his performance as that character. That's why we have movies that are a commercial success and movies that are a critical success.

Ah, yes. The distinction between commercial and critical.

Of course, you are so right, Shri. And I do agree that the artists and producers deserve their due acclaim. In fact, though the commercial masses may not recognize the value and importance of it, peer support and recognition through awards and award shows is as vital to the industry in its own way as commercial success is at the box office.

Actors, writers, producers, technical creators - the whole shebang of cogs in the wheels of the entertainment industry - NEED the encourage and support and recognition to keep them interested and motivated and enthusiastic about continuing to pursue their respective professions.

Many of us in OUR respective professions SAY we're doing it for the money, but I would venture to suggest that far more of us are doing it for the sense of personal achievement and satisfaction it brings us than "just" for the money. Of course, we do need the cash to help smooth life's path a bit, but why do we sometimes put in the insane hours and effort that we do if not for the love of the game?

Judging by the awards shows, there must be at least a few participants in the entertainment industry who feel that way too!

Well even in the NHL and NBA there's an award for the player with the most points and the MVP. The most valuable player isn't necessarily the highest scorer.

So while the Oscar's "Best Picture" award pays tribute to the most valuable contribution to the art of film making... perhaps they need to add a category for the movie that simply earns the highest "score" (i.e. box office return and total DVD sales).

In last year's Oscar Best Picture, "No Country For Old Men", there was just a lot of staring by characters at times, and I've taken 2 film courses during my undergrad to know that's neither artistic or entertaining

True, Kevin, but isn't that "staring by characters" representative of many in society who sit around staring at big or little screens, calling it "being entertained"? Sooo many can relate to the staring in that winning film, so maybe THAT's why it was the winner? (Just kidding, ofcourse!)
