Internet Fax Services - any suggestions?

Postby RussellWebb » Wed Jul 30, 2008 1:08 pm

Hi forum members,

I'm ready to ditch my color fax machine that uses 4 color cartridges that cost me about 100 dollars each. These cartridges seem to run out of ink every other day, even though they appear to have ink in them... Boy, what was I thinking? Why the heck did I buy this thing? Nobody ever faxes me in color!

It all started with a little peer pressure from a friend, something like: "you don't have a color fax machine? what's wrong with you? " Then I got to thinking... as I needed a new fax machine, it would be great to have those faxes in color... wouldn't it? Well, it never happened... after I bought this machine I sat by and waited, and waited, and waited... nobody ever sent me a color fax... How disappointing :(

So I'm looking at this machine as it demands yet another set of cartridges before it spits out my fax... I tell ya... I'm done with this thing...

Oh yeah, that reminds me why I posted this topic in the first place. Which internet fax services do you use and how reliable are they? I need to get a fax service ASAP.

I even moved my color printer to the basement when a friend recommended that I check out a brother printer. I went from 250-300 copies for about $25 to 2500 copies for about $30. 99% of my copies are fine in black and white, so it was a very good move :)

I needed a fax machine and found a great deal at www.staples.com - after the rebate, it cost me $20. I got one for my office and one for my brother's office and 2 years later they are still going strong :) I'll watch the thread for info about internet fax services. It would be a nice option to have if the price is low or right :)

efax is a good online fax service

Postby David Hurley » Thu Jul 31, 2008 12:32 pm

Hi Russell,

About ten years ago I used efax.com and really liked the service. Then I moved to Japan and didn't get around to using them again. I just checked their site and they are still going strong. You also get a 30 day free trial, so you've got nothing to lose by trying them. Just check out the fax rates (available on the site).

It is a very flexible service - being able to get faxes via an email link frees you from the fax machine...

Hey, why did you want to receive colour faxes - lucky you don't get any fax spam!

Hi,

Our company uses www.j2.com. It only costs $15 a month. All you do is scan your document in and J2 will send it out. It is nice because faxes are e-mailed to you as well.

Hi Russell,

My "all in one" color inkjet printer/fax does the same. Have you tried simply taking out the ink cartridge and shaking it or cleaning the nozzle?

Perhaps investing in a laser printer/fax is a better investment in the long run??

Yes Kevin... I've been through that routine. Almost bought one of those refill kits to save some money, but have decided to abandon this machine (Brother intellifax).

Hi David,

Hey, why did you want to receive colour faxes - lucky you don't get any fax spam!

Well, we work with graphics programs and deal with color images - mainly logos - and I thought it would be useful. Turns out emailing is preferred by just about everyone we deal with.

BTW, I did sign up with eFax and find the service working well so far. I figure costs of the monthly service @ 17mth will hopefully be a better value than total costs of ink cartridges, and fax machine. I expect it would esp if you are sending/receiving a lot of faxes. In my case I'm a borderline user, so it might pay off or at least balance out. Anyway, no more spam faxes printing out unless I say so...

Hey Russell, Dave here.

I've used MetroHiSpeed Internet Fax for the past 3 or 4 years. Very good services. I've yet to send or receive a fax that didn't go through (at least - when I entered the # correctly). :)

Admittedly, I haven't used another Internet fax service so I can't compare. On the other side - I've never needed to. :)

Hope this helps.

Good luck with eFax and thanks for letting us know what action you took. One of the benefits of an e-fax service is that you can control your paper supply!! :D

Our office uses an efax service here in Australia however, i think they are in Australia but service worldwide utbox.net service is great, we manage multiple engineer sign off forms on a daily basis and to avoid to cost of paying staff to scan in documents, this does it for us, we can save to server and email to clients on demand.

The other benefit to it is, if the fax does not come through completed correctly or it fails, we are not wasting paper, ink/toner etc, the cost of the efax services now far outweighs the cost of admin staff and consumables.

Looks reliable... nice site.

I'm loving our efax service. It's convenient and we can send via our email or directly through their site. Any attachments, like word docs, or pdf's, in the emails get sent through fine and it's kind of like magic... I like it when I can't figure out how they do some of these things.

Hi people, I am making the fax number ie. send a fax to a local number but the local fax machine you sent it to thinks it came from Europe or something i.e. a European number is displayed on the fax at the recipients end. How do you send a fax domestically and make it look like it came from an overseas fax machine number? Thanks a lot for you help. Have a good day.

Hi, Ramona:

Why would you want it to look like it came from somewhere else? :?:
