Where do you buy cheap airplane tickets?

Postby Kevin Lee » Thu Aug 07, 2008 8:12 pm

When you book a flight for business or vacation, is it better to do it yourself online with the actual airline or do you go through a "discount" agency like FlightCentre.ca, CheapFlights.com, etc?

I was at Flight Centre today and while the price looked ok, I was surprised they wanted to add a $50 service charge for booking the flight. As such, I decided to hold off on buying tickets from them for the time being.

Hi Evan,

I have bought from Cheapflights.com, I guess and had good experiences.

ASDA is an UK superstorr and part of Walmart. Recently I discovered that I can get good rates. Also, if I have a desire to fly from A to B in the US, I can also order a ticket. At least, it shows all the details of a possible flight and a order page.

The only thing, it shows it in English Pounds, but it may be easily changed to Dollars when using a debitg card.

Regards

Beat

I think Orbits can get you pretty good deals. I've never used them myself, but I know people who have.

Thanks everyone!

I think my mistake was waiting too late (3 weeks before my flight) to buy tickets. Moreover, it also doesn't help that I'm insistent on "non-stop" flights and particular about the airline, aisle seat and flying days/times. I mean, sure I could easily save $100-150 on a flight to NY if I didn't mind a stop over, leaving mid-week or having to wake up at 4am to get to the airport for a 6am flight  But the inconvenience wouldn't be worth it to me.

I ended up paying about $480 for a flight to NY over the Labour Day long weekend, but at least I have $250-300 worth of airmile dollars to redeem :)
