In order to generate leads, sales clients etc on twitter don't you have to follow people who would need your services ?

Hello, Anthony:

It definitely makes more sense, and potentially creates more value, to follow people with similar interests and people who fit into the profile of your targeted audience.

One of the purpose and benefits of Social Media and social networking is that connections you make with one person could open up many doors to many other groups of people. I wouldn't recommend following just anybody and everybody on Twitter – be selective to some degree – but it may not hurt to extend your reach by following a wider group of potential prospects on Twitter.

Hi Anthony,

I have the same view as GT on this. To me Twitter is about building relationships with others in your niche with a view to maybe doing business later.

I'm not completely closed to others outside of my niche but I don't view Twitter as a numbers game. I don't see the point in having thousands of followers who I have no connection with whatsoever,

I'm sure you will get great value from Evan's video which I look forward to seeing,

regards,

Mal.

Hi,

I've struggled with this too. Even if you are providing great content and informative links on your Twitter account, it's still pretty hard to get people to follow you, let alone turn into an actual LEAD for your business! Does anyone else have any tips? We promote our blog posts and other media on Twitter every day.

I agree that it is difficult to get targeted followers.

I have several Twitter accounts and when I started each one what I did was commit some time to it each day for a period of time, following a few people and re-tweeting their tweets to get their attention so that they would hopefully follow me. I never followed masses of people because that does not look natural. I rarely follow a Twitter member who has an unusually high "following" count compared to their followers.

Once I get the account rolling, then I try to post tweets regularly and I check in regularly to follow new followers. I am selective with who I follow to some degree: if their following/follower ratio is out of whack, I don't follow them; if I don't think their tweets are compatible with my target market, I don't follow them; if there is anything suspicious about their account (like a female photo but a male name, or vice versa), I don't follow them.

Also, I typically do not follow Twitter members who seem to only be promoting the sale of Twitter followers! Again, that is not a natural way to build followers and probably not a beneficial way.

Just some thoughts.
