Sometimes I must be brutally honest

Postby webmiep » Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:07 pm

It is not a pleasant thing to do but I could not live with myself if I didn't.

On several networks I had encounters with newbies that were using the chat messenger. They asked my advice to earn money quick or they used the messenger to spam me with links or asking me to join this or that.

My response is normally that using the chat to send offers to people you do not know is not professional and that they will accomplish nothing by doing this.

If they have not switched me off by than I refer to the importance of branding your self and building connections with others, etcetera, etcetera....

I some cases they told me personal things like they needed money desperately and fast for a sick family member, facing the fact they must sell their home, and other sad stories. Many of them said they were posting links all day and did not make any sales.

I really feel sorry for people in such desperate situations.

In those cases I tell them what they probably do not want to hear, that it takes 2-3 years of hard work to build a business from scratch and to earn decent money from it.

My advice to them is: use your online time to find a regular job.

That happened to most of us who works online daily. Sometime I feel I could help them to get out of this situation but we can't. They need to understand that it is not a professional way to market your products or services. Who is willing to buy a product from a stranger without being aware of his/her company, business presence, trust and etc. I will never buy such kind of product or service.
These people are just wasting their time by putting unfruitful efforts. The proper way to start selling online product or services is by building a brand recognition. First you have to make a word about you and your organization. Once you have got that you can go further with promoting your products and services. This way you can build up a level of trust for buyers and they will be ready to buy from you.
They need to monetize their efforts to the right approach in order to earn something that can help them to get out of the running problems.

Being brutally honest ... I have never used the DM (Direct Message) feature on Twitter and I never read DMs from other Twitter members. The reason is because right from my first day on Twitter, members began spamming me through the DMs, and periodic spot checks have proven that it has not changed in the years that I've been on Twitter.

DMs should be for private conversations that are REAL, not promotional messages. I experience this on other Social sites as well and usually ignore and delete the messages without responding.

Its a most common practice to influence people for donating or joining in some cause. It is rather a cheap mode of marketing a business, instead of building a brand it disrepute the business or product related to it.
